Episode 3: Group Chats & Side Talks
Friday came with rain—just enough to soak slippers, but not enough to cancel lectures. Nora was in the cafeteria with Yetunde, stirring her cold jollof rice, half-focused.
“Why you dey press phone like that?” Yetunde asked, eyeing her screen.
“Trying to ignore Ayomide’s messages,” Nora muttered. “He’s been too extra since the pen thing.”
Yetunde raised a brow. “You no like him?”
“I don’t know,” Nora sighed. “He’s everywhere. And Michael’s… I don’t even understand that one.”
Before Yetunde could reply, Habibat slid into their seat like she had fire news.
“Have you seen the chat?”
“What chat?” Yetunde asked, instantly alert.
Habibat flashed her phone. “UNIOSUN Fresh Biochem ’25 group. Someone dropped screenshots.”
Nora’s stomach tightened. “Screenshots of what?”
Habibat scrolled fast. There it was.
A cropped WhatsApp chat:
| Ayomide: "That small girl? Na pen she take dey fall. Watch."
Another line:
| Random Number: “Abi na the Engineering guy she dey follow?”
The messages kept rolling, her name flashing in too many places. The worst part? Someone had added a screenshot of her WhatsApp status from Monday.
“Some people walk in like they’ve been in your story all along.”
Captioned: “Thirst much?”
Nora felt like ice poured down her back.
“Who added me to this group?!” she asked, voice shaking.
Yetunde grabbed her hand. “Nora, chill…”
But she stood up, chest tight. People were watching her now. Whispering.
Michael wasn’t anywhere around.
Ayomide was, though—laughing with his friends near the faculty stairs. He met her eyes. No guilt. Just that same smirk.
That night, she deleted her WhatsApp status. Turned off her read receipts.
But at 11:42 p.m., she got a message.
| Michael: “I saw what happened. Don’t let him break your voice.”
She stared at it.
Then another came in.
| Michael: “You want a ride to school tomorrow?”
